Fibrous dysplasia is a rare condition that can affect the long bones and bones of the face and skull, effectively causing overgrowth of fibrous, scar-like tissue in place of normal bone. This condition can occur in isolation or in association with a broader syndrome. Children with Fibrous Dysplasia may manifest tan colored skin spots and hormonal imbalance. Treatment of characteristic fibrous overgrowth is aimed at bony recontouring to treat potential neuro/functional deficits and disfiguring craniofacial differences.
