When it comes to oral cancer, early detection is key. The earlier a cancer is detected, the easier the treatment, and the greater the chance of a cure. Your primary care doctor or dentist may refer you to your Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon at first concern for an abnormal oral mass or ulceration, difficulty swallowing, chronic sore throat or swollen glands in the neck. Regular visits with your surgeon increase the chance of identifying changes or new growth early.
